Sherwood Christian Academy is proud to announce that SCA Seniors, Will Moorhead and Alex Collins attended the Law Academy in Atlanta conducted by the State Bar of Georgia on September 21-24. The intensive four-day event, designed to hone the skills of high school mock trial students, showcased their exceptional talent and skills.
The State Bar of Georgia’s Law Academy is a highly competitive program, with only 50 students accepted from across the state each year. It is designed to provide opportunities for high school mock trial students to augment their skills in trial technique and procedure, rules of evidence, witness presentation, and leadership within a mock trial team.
A highlight of the program is the opportunity for students to explore the Georgia legal system by visiting esteemed institutions such as the Georgia Court of Appeals, the State Bar of Georgia, and the Georgia Supreme Court. These visits provided students, Moorhead and Collins, with a firsthand understanding of the workings of the state’s legal framework.
Both Will and Alex also demonstrated their commitment to their legal aspirations by taking the Student Bar Exam during Law Academy which will potentially qualify them for admission into the Student Bar of Georgia. Their scores on the written test and closing arguments in their mock trial scrimmage will determine whether they are accepted. Scores will be posted in late November.
Will and Alex are members of the Sherwood Christian Academy Mock Trial team, the “Legal Eagles.” The team is coached by local attorneys Alfreda Sheppard and Sandra Satchell. The Legal Eagles team is now entering its third year of competition in the Georgia State High School Mock Trial Competition. SCA’s Mock Trial Team has previously won in Region, District levels, and has been recognized as a top 20 team at the State level.
